VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Hon. Alex Askew, former Delegate and the Democratic candidate for House of Delegates District 95 and MSgt (Ret.) Michael Feggans, the Democratic candidate for House of Delegates District 97, have released the following joint statement in response to the removal of Sunday voting and early voting locations in Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads regions:

“The extreme MAGA Republican Party of Virginia is firmly committed to making the ability to cast a vote harder for citizens because they know that the more ways people can vote early the higher the chances they will lose elections. It is particularly detrimental to minority communities when early voting locations and opportunities are taken away. This is particularly true in regions of Virginia Beach. We need to ensure that everyone in Virginia Beach and across the Commonwealth has equitable access to the ballot box.”

The Virginian-Pilot highlighted that specifically in Virginia Beach, Sunday voting will not take place this year. This will negatively affect minority communities, especially Black communities that have a rich history of “Souls to the Polls” events following Sunday services and other ways to engage their communities in voting.
